| I'm a popcorn addict, and I've tried several different methods, but this Wabash Valley Farms Whirley Pop Popcorn Popper is my favorite. You need to buy popcorn that is fresh so that it comes out nice and crunchy (Whole Food's bulk popcorn is pretty good). You need to use oil to make popcorn in this pan, but you don't need as much butter because the oil gives it a nice flavor. The vent holes release steam which is what makes the popcorn come out nice and crispy. I pop a couple of batches and salt it (no butter) and put it in a large tupperware container, and my husband takes it to work to have for his afternoon snack during the week and it stays fresh for the whole week. He doesn't miss the butter, but when we're at home, we add butter, of course! |

| I purchased this whirley pop popcorn maker after reading the reviews. I love Kettle Corn, and have tried various microwave versions, which were OK, but were kind of expensive for the amount received. The reviews were mostly favorable on this unit and some of the remarks that the construction is rather flimsy are also valid. But friends it's a popcorn maker not a sledge hammer. The weak link is the crank and gear mechanism which could be improved without a huge investment, but that said if you don't force things I'm sure you will get many buckets of delicious wholesome popcorn, the best that I've tasted in many years, and with very few unpopped kernels. |

| I have cooked about 30 batches of popcorn so far and every one has come out perfectly. There are never more than 2 or 3 old maids and often there are none. I use grape seed oil and find that I can get away with a very small amount (although the popcorn tastes better if I use more). There is nothing special about the popcorn I use. I get excellent results with generic white popcorn available at the supermarket for less than a dollar a pound. I have tried various gourmet brands of popcorn with good results but I keep going back to the cheap white stuff because it has the best flavor. Go figure.
I toasted some raw pumpkin seeds in the popper and they came out great. I tried using oil the first time but discovered that no oil is necessary since the seeds exude oil when heated. The home popcorn popper seems flimsy but it works just fine so I will suspend judgment on that issue until I have some actual problems. This thing beats microwave popcorn hands down. It is just as fast and I can control my ingredients. I use good oil and I salt the popcorn with the salt substitute named no salt. It makes for an inexpensive, nourishing, high fiber, low-calorie snack.
